Wasco Products versus
other brands
Single Unit Product
comparison
Company Profile:
Wasco: Made in the USA, Sanford, ME. Since 1935. Residential,
Light Architectural and Commercial Skylights
Wasco Ease of
Installation:
Wasco E-Class skylights are preassembled and have a built in 6”
wide flexible black PVC flange around the entire perimeter. There
is no additional flashing or caulk or roofing cement needed. Just
snap in the brackets provided, screw them down, and shingle around
the skylight. One box, One skylight, No need to disassemble and
reassemble like other brands; even if a ventilating model.
Velux info: Each skylight is two boxes. One with skylight and
the other is the flashing kit. Venting units must have the
sash removed first, before they are step flashed. All units
must be step flashed with flashing provided in the second box.
Wasco Daylight
Opening:
All Wasco single unit model skylights (EF, EV, EVM GS, GSV) have
the highest percentage of daylight opening to roof hole opening.
The Wasco E-Class frame sits on the deck (not in the hole) and the
sash on venting models sits directly above the base frame
(not
inside the base frame) thus maintaining 99% of the same daylight
between fixed and ventilating models.
The Wasco G series
skylight sits on a wood curb provided by others and has the same
amount of daylight as the E-Class.
Look closely at the
actual square feet of daylight when comparing brands.
Wasco
Condensation Control:
All Wasco single unit model skylights have an internal
“Condensation Gutter” around the entire perimeter. This gutter
collects any condensation that forms on the underside of the glass
and keeps it from dropping onto the floor below or running down the
skylight frame.
Additionally, Wasco
does not have “Weep Holes” drilled into the frame of the skylight
which can defeat the purpose of energy efficient glass since weep
holes allow hot and cold air to transfer freely between the inside
of your home and the outside. The Condensation Gutter itself is all
that is needed to deal with condensation. After collecting in the
˝” deep gutter, condensation evaporates naturally as the humidity
levels in the room change.
Velux info: Condensation is not controlled and therefore runs
down the downward slope side of the skylight (inside of the home)
and causes stains on the wood frame. Also the weep holes allow
the free transfer of hot or cold air from outside to inside.
Wasco Remote
Control:
Radio Frequency (RF) Remote Controls allow you to be up to 80’
away from the skylight to operate it. One remote can operate up to
99 separate skylights. 9 separate “sets” can operate up to 9
separate rooms of the home from one remote. Thermal settings allow
automatic operation when the set temperature is reached, and
automatically close when set temperature is returned. Rain Sensor
allows automatic closing in the event of rain.
Velux info: The Velux remote is infrared and must be pointed
at the skylight control motor, and be up to and only 20' away.
Wasco
Interior Finishing:
All White Rigid PVC frame
interior. No need to get up in the skylight shaft to paint or stain
a wood frame.
Velux info: Wood frame on most units.
Wasco Warranty:
Ten Year written “Leak Proof” Warranty on every Wasco
residential single unit skylight.

| The sizes of Wasco
Skylights are near identical to most of the skylights that
need to be replaced, because Wasco follows the standard US
sizing system that is based on both 24" O.C. Roof rafters and
/or 16" O.C. Roof rafters, unlike other leading brands which
are manufactured to foreign sizing specifications. Wasco
skylights will fit right in the current hole cut in your roof,
whether it is a "Self-Flashed" method of installation, or
"curb mount method of installation. |
