Curb vs. Deck Mount
Deck mounted skylights are attached directly to the roof sheathing and attaches to the drywall that sits below. These are typically installed in slightly sloped roof pitch situations so the water will run around the skylight and not into the building. For a deck mounted skylight, the minimum pitch is 3:12 / 14 degrees or greater.
Curb mounted skylights sit on a 2x4 or 2x6 curb or raised frame when the roof pitch is lower or flat. The curb itself will channel water away from the skylight keeping the space below dry. The roof pitch for a curb mounted skylight is is 0:12 / 0 degrees to 20:12 / 60 degrees.
Model & Serial Numbers
Every VELUX skylight and roof window features a data plate mounted on the frame. This dataplate contains the product serial number, which tells the skylight model, glass type and date of manufacture.
When ordering accessories for existing products or requesting product servicing, you should locate this number prior to contacting us. Doing so will help us provide you with the best service possible.
Tip: For the FS the plate is located at the bottom left frame, VS/VSE is at the bottom left sash. For QPF, FCM, VCM and VCE the information is stamped into the side of the exterior covers.
A fixed skylight can also be referred to as a non-venting skylight. The glass is stationary and does not open or close. In comparison, a venting skylight - manual, electric, or solar powered - will open to allow fresh air to enter and humidity to escape. View a full list of our fixed skylights for more details.

Glass Type Selections
Laminated glass is a combination of two or more glass sheets with one or more interlayers of plastic (PVB) or resin. In case of breakage, the interlayer is designed to hold the fragments together. Tempered glass does not contain an interlayer to hold the fragments together. Instead, tempered glass is designed to break into small, pebble-like pieces. When tempered glass breaks, pieces of glass come loose and may strike an individual.

Return policy for Damaged Items
Skylights For Less will always replace any damaged items in a prompt fashion. Skylights are typically replaced in less than one week, however lead times vary depending on the product or specification. We do ask that you inspect shipments thoroughly upon receipt and prior to signing. Damaged shipments should be refused or received with notation of apparent damage. Details of damage is helpful, but most importantly, noting that damage is recognized helps all parties when settling claims.

All orders canceled prior to or after shipping may be subject to a cancellation fee of up to 15%. A 30% restocking fee may also be accessed in accordance with our return policy.
