Introducing the All New VELUX CPF/CXP Skylight

VELUX is an innovative company. They always want to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to a new product that their customers might like more. That’s why they’ve come up with the CFP/CXP Skylight. This innovative skylight is designed for flatter roofs - fixed CFP models can be applied on roofs pitched up to 60°, while the CXP can be applied on roofs pitched up to 15°.

But how does this differ from the existing roof windows?

Here’s the long answer: VELUX’s traditional roof windows are supposed to operate just like their title implies – like a window. Whether it’s a top hinged, center pivot, or roof access, you’re supposed to be able to reach it without difficulty and open it manually, much like a double hung window. But what if you don’t need to be able to open the window? What if you just want a nice daylight opening on your roof that will practically clean itself? What if you’d like larger, more square roof access window that allows you to egress more easily?

CFP and CXP models are both deck mounted onto an incredibly efficient PVC frame, designed to reduce energy costs. The curved glass on the ISD covers helps rainwater to easily roll off the skylight, preventing leaks and keeping a clean look. The glass is also clearer than that of a dynamic dome, allowing more natural light into your area.

There are three ISD covers to choose from:

  1. Polycarbonate ISD – this durable, highly impact resistant material also has edge-to-edge counter flashing leak protection
  2. Curved Glass ISD – with tempered glass for a virtually scratch-proof double layer of protection. Also features a very modern and innovative design!
  3. CXP Hatch – this also features the same highly durable polycarbonate, but with a laminated thermal pane for added safety, sound control, and thermal protection. This also offers a roof access hatch, which is easy to use with the new larger sizes.

You might be asking yourself, “So how do these compare to the existing fixed CG2 models? Aren’t the fixed models the same?” and you’re partially correct. CG2 models replaced CMA models, however there are only 5 sizes available. None of these sizes feature a roof hatch, and a polycarbonate glazing isn’t available on CG2 models. Additionally, the new CFP and CXP models have a new curved glass and ISD frame which help keep all moisture off, not just the moisture on the glass.
